چکیده

A 53-year-old man, previously healthy, presented with a slowprogressive enlarging mass in the midfrontal area which had developed 14 years previously without headache. On physical examination, this nodular reddish mass (11 x 7 x 5 cm) was fluctuant to pressure and tethered to the underlying frontal bone (A). There was no neurological deficit and no superficial lymph nodes. Cranial computed tomography scan showed an irregular median calvarial defect with poorly bony defined margins and left frontal sinus invasion (B-C). Magnetic resonance imaging revealed intracranial extension of the tumour which invaded the dura and the superior longitudinal sinus (D-E). Local biopsy was performed and histological study consisted with a dermatofibrosarcoma. In this specific case, radiotherapy was planned before surgical excision and craniofacial reconstruction. Dermatofibrosarcoma is a slow-growing mesenchymatous tumour of the skin with high local malignancy and great opportunity of recurrence. It usually occurs in the trunk or extremities. In the majority of cases the tumour remains asymptomatic for a long time. Head (scalp) and maxillofacial involvement is rare particularly with skull vault and intracranial extension. To improve local control after surgery, wide excision is recommended but difficult in significant anatomic region as in our case. Figure 1: Patient photograph showing the midfrontal mass of the scalp (A). Axial cranial CT-scan revealing the frontal calvarial defect with poorly bony defined margins (B-C). Axial and sagittal T1-weighted MRI after gadolinium injection showing the enhanced soft heterogeneous extracranial process which invaded the dura and the superior longitudinal sinus (D-E)

Orbital dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans with intracranial extension preceded by recurrent leiomyoma of the orbit: a case report

INTRODUCTION Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a rare, locally aggressive cutaneous tumor of intermediate to low-grade malignancy. COL1A1-PDGFβ translocation is specific to dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, where the abnormally fused COL1A1-PDGFβ gene directs formation of an abnormal combined (fusion) protein that researchers believe to ultimately function like the platelet-derived growth facto...

Extracranial Extension of Intracranial Atypical Meningioma En Plaque with Osteoblastic Change of the Skull

Meningioma is a common primary tumor of central nervous system. However, extracranial extension of the intracranial meningioma is unusual, and mostly accompanied the osteolytic change of the skull. We herein describe an atypical meningioma having extracranial extension with hyperostotic change of the skull. The patient was a 72-year-old woman who presented a large mass in the right frontal scal...

Leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminata: case report and review of the literature.

Leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminata (LPD) is typically a benign and rare disorder found in female patients, prior to menopause. It can be found in the subperitoneal or peritoneal spaces and is represented by multiple different sized myomatous nodules (smooth muscle tumors). Additionally, it has also been found in women after menopause as well as in men. Despite the fact that high levels of ...

Superficial leiomyosarcoma of the scalp: a case report.

We present the case of a 91-year old female, with no family history of malignancy, diagnosed with primary superficial leiomyosarcoma G1 of the scalp with frontal bone lysis and intracranial extension. The particularity of this case is the rarity of this tumor and the uncommon location. Also the bone involvement, present in our case, has been seen only in a reduced number of patients, approximat...

Considerations for Tissue Expansion in the Management of Massive Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans of the Head and Neck

OBJECTIVE Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a locally invasive soft tissue tumor with rare malignant potential, but a high tendency for local recurrence. We present 2 cases of DFSP involving the head and neck requiring tissue expansion for reconstruction. METHODS A retrospective review of the medical records for 2 patients with DFSP was performed. Data concerning the operative approac...
